Chilly Night Across Northeast as Rain Hugs the Coast

TeaWithNews Business 📅 October 17, 2026 ✍️ TeaWithNews 3 min read

NORTHEAST Cool temperatures settled across much of the Northeast, with a band of clouds and showers lingering off the Atlantic coast, according to a live weather report showing current conditions across the region.

Temperatures

Readings ranged from the upper 30s in the north to the mid 50s in the south. Hartford, Connecticut, was the coolest city listed at 37 degrees, followed by Buffalo, New York, at 39, and Boston at 41. Pittsburgh was at 43, while Baltimore and New York City were both at 45. Philadelphia reached 46 and Washington, D.C., 49. Norfolk, Virginia, was the warmest of the nine cities at 54 degrees.

Rain Along the Coast

The radar map shows a long stretch of cloud cover and light precipitation, shown in green, extending from the mid-Atlantic coast northeast over the open ocean. The heaviest returns appeared near the Virginia and Delmarva coastline, and Norfolk was the only city with a rain icon. The other cities showed partly cloudy conditions, and the map shows little to no precipitation over inland areas from the Great Lakes through Pennsylvania and upstate New York.

What It Means for Travelers and Commuters

With temperatures in the 30s and 40s across much of the region, a jacket is a good idea for anyone heading out, especially early in the morning and after dark. Those in southeastern Virginia and along the coast should be prepared for wet roads and possible slowdowns. Cold, damp conditions can make driving trickier, particularly where temperatures hover near freezing in the northern parts of the region.

Staying Updated

Weather patterns can shift quickly, especially along the coast. Readers should check the National Weather Service or a local forecast for the latest conditions and any advisories for their area.

Conditions are as displayed on the broadcast graphic and may have changed since.
